Thankfulness - Growth Group Questions

Note: you might like to do these questions before worship, and then focus worship on songs that thank God

Readings

• There are seven places in Colossians where Paul talks about being thankful to God
  • take it in turns to read the following verses:
    • 1:3
    • 1:12
    • 2:7
    • 3:15,16,17
    • 4:2
• What other verses can we think of that speak of thankfulness?

Discussion

• Can you think of an incident where you appreciated being thanked by someone?
  • Why is it nice to be thanked?
  • What do you think are the reason are we not more thankful?
• Why is God so displeased by unthankfulness and pleased by thankfulness?
• What does it do for someone if we thank them publicly in front of other people?
  • honours, values, uplifts, gives glory to them, takes glory off ourselves

Practical

• Can each person in the room come up with one item they would like to thank God for in the last week

World

• Why does it make an impression on unbelievers when a Christian has a spirit of thankfulness to God?
  • How is this different to most people?
  • What can we do to become more thankful?
